At Global Sound Movement (GSM), every instrument we record is key to a deeper understanding of its culture. In Cyprus, this connection was incredibly profound as we encountered and sampled instruments central to the island's rich musical heritage.

With its deep tonal depth and shimmering octave strings, the bouzouki became an immediate favorite, offering melodies that felt both ancient and timeless. The santouri, a hammered dulcimer, enchanted us with its cascading, melodic resonance, weaving an intricate texture into the island’s traditional music. And then there were the davul, darbuka, and bendir a trio of percussion instruments whose rhythms brought an undeniable energy and life to Cyprus’s iconic folk dances.

Through careful recording and sampling, we’ve preserved the unique timbres of these instruments, making them accessible to musicians and creators worldwide. They now stand as a bridge between the vibrant traditions of Cyprus and the limitless possibilities of global innovation.
