Global Sound Movement – Times Higher Award Winners

The GSM are thrilled to have been awarded a Times Higher Education Award for excellence and innovation in the arts.

Last week, on Thursday the 24th of November, the GSM team travelled to London for the Times Higher Education Awards, hosted at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair. We were nominated for an award for excellence and innovation in the arts, alongside five other nominees, who together showcased an incredible array of creative arts projects taking place all across the country.

We were simply overwhelmed when it was announced that we were the winners of this award, and we are all immensely proud of the achievement. Our dedicated team have worked tirelessly for the past 18 months to move the Global Sound Movement project forward in multiple areas, while maintaining a strong focus on our key goals and objectives.

We would not have been able to progress and grow the GSM to such a strong position and at such a significant rate, without the help of several members of staff at the University of Central Lancashire, and team members from UCLan’s Media Innovation Studio (MIST), led by professor Paul Egglestone. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who has helped us on our journey, and we are delighted to see so much hard work being rewarded on such a prestigious platform.

This award is not just about us –  the work we do allows us to connect cultures, break down social boundaries, and aid communities in need all over the world. The charities that we have worked with on our travels have turned into dearly valued partners, and we’d like to thank Sound FoundationBrass for AfricaHands for Hope, the Bali Life Foundation and the Bali Children’s Project, for continuing to work with and support us. We believe music to be a universal language that anyone can connect with, and one of our goals is to build bonds that can transcend social structure, race, wealth and location. We aim to encourage artistic creativity in any individual, allowing novices and professional musicians alike, the chance to make their own unique art using materials gathered from various locations around the world.

The people we have met and the incredible musicians that we have worked with have allowed our vision to become a reality, and we owe so very much to them. These wonderful people are the reason that we keep pushing forward into new areas of research to better discover how we can have an even more inclusive approach, and an even broader and more diverse reach. We are now more determined than ever to continue with our hard work, and after coming so far in just 18 months, we are all incredibly excited for what the future might hold.

Our new GSM Cyprus sample package is on sale now for just £2.99.

Recently, we launched our new artist series, focusing on professional musicians and how they utilise our content. You can read more about the GSM Artist Series here.
