Sunday-Gospel

Kampala Christian Church

As Uganda is a religiously diverse nation, with Christianity and Islam being the most widely professed. It seemed appropriate to participate in something that is so wide spread throughout the country.

To bring us to the end of the week, we chose to spend the last day engrossed Ugandan music and culture. To start it off we travelled to one of the many churches in Kampala to experience a Sunday Gospel Service. As Uganda is a religiously diverse nation, with Christianity and Islam being the most widely professed. It seemed appropriate to participate in something that is so wide spread throughout the country. Many churches are divided between Roman Catholic and Protestant, but also include the Seventh-day Adventists, Baptists, Greek Orthodoxy and Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The gospel experience was rather surprising to us all, especially as they started with a concert style opening. This got the congregation in anticipation for the sermon. The whole atmosphere of the church was full of energy, as soon as you stepped through the doors; energy was emphasised throughout the whole service, from the musicians through to the preacher. To capture the vibrancy of the service we brought the Zoom H4n to record, which can be listened to below. The entire experience of the service was unforgettable and really showed the impact of religion within Uganda.
